SENIOR BUYER– CAPEX ENGINEERING, CONSTRUCTION & PROJECTS (INTERIM 12-24 MONTH CONTRACT)
C£60-75000 (DOE) + Excellent Benefits
Location: North West
Our client is long established and pivotal player within the energy and utilities supply chain and utilises world leading technology at its plant in the North West. As a result of continued growth and major projects our client is looking for Senior Buyer for its CAPEX, Engineering, Construction and Projects function on an interim (12-24 month contracts) basis.
The focus of the role is the leadership of cross functional teams on major sourcing projects, developing and executing sourcing strategies; the tender and negotiation process; supplier selection, drafting, award and execution of contracts; commercial management of suppliers post contract management of capital investments and infrastructure projects and the delivery of strategic change and operational efficiency. Our client is seeking graduate calibre, MCIPS qualified Construction and Engineering Projects specialists ideally with NEC3 knowledge and experience (although training will be provided).
The Role:
• To support the EPC Project Procurement Manager/ Engineering, Construction and Projects Team in the execution of both local and global strategies.
• To work with relevant customers/stakeholders and procurement colleagues in the development and execution of customer aligned and fully integrated category plan(s) for Engineering, Construction and Projects, and taking the commercial lead in the sourcing, selection and management of suppliers for all associated projects.
• As a member of a global procurement and category team actively contribute to the development and execution of the category plan and associated projects in order to drive maximum value from the supply chain and the dissemination of best practice.
• To actively contribute to the development of the Category Plan such that the Team is clear on the vision, strategy and implementation process.
• To develop, evaluate and manage internal and external supplier relationships such that they support the optimisation of our client’s position.
• To manage significant and complex supplier contracts in line with corporate policies and procedures to drive both value and compliance for the Company
• To develop partnerships with customer groups and business leaders in order to gain their support and co-operation in the delivery of sourcing projects and the category plan.
• To work with key customers to ensure an effective view of business strategy, portfolio of projects and priorities such that realistic expectations are formed on all sides.

• Support the Procurement Manager in the development of self and peers in becoming a professional customer facing value adding function and exploiting the collective knowledge of the Procurement function.
The Ideal Candidate:
• University degree educated (or with evidence of recent CPD) plus MCIPS essential.
• Experience gained within a multinational, corporate and regulated environment such as utilities, aerospace, pharmaceutical, electronics, engineering, capital intensive industry, construction, public sector OJEU environments etc.
• At least four years’ procurement experience including minimum two years in a category manager or senior buyer role within the CAPEX, Engineering, Construction Projects category area.
• NEC3 experience and knowledge advantageous.
• An understanding of category management principles and a working knowledge of SAP processes and functionality across the procurement process and integration with other functions.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, persuasion and influencing including business case development and presentation experience.
• Excellent track record of supplier management and development including implementation of supplier management programmes with key suppliers.
• Experience of advising and leading on bid evaluation approach in support of supplier selection.
• Experience of development and execution of project procurement strategies within the context of construction and engineering projects.
• Able to drive a lean sourcing culture, driving efficiencies and improvements by challenging current practice and actively participating with regulatory bodies to support innovative procurement.

Our client is a global multinational. They are seeking an ambitious and creative, strategic Senior Buyer with experience of Fuel Assembly Systems, Precision Engineering and Process Technology for a key innovation project. Initially this role is offered on an interim 18 months -2 years contract.
Specifically, as Senior Buyer, you will provide commercial procurement support to the project, product design and development teams with a view to taking new product innovation from cradle to grave, ideation and concept development to market launch. Ideally you must have experience of procurement contract management including intellectual property within the context of product development.
You will be a university degree educated strategic category and procurement management professional with experience of precision engineering equipment including fuel assemblies and systems, precision engineering and automated process technology.
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual who can contribute to the development of our client’s procurement capability within this key innovation project.
You will be skilled at working collaboratively cross functionally and internationally and will be able to add significant value and in a regulated environment, whilst still ensuring that the product reaches market within stringent launch deadlines.
The Role:
· Delivery of new strategic procurement options for the fuel assembly systems, precision engineering and process technology categories in support of the project
· Category development and delivery, setting out the value drivers for the categories and the roadmap of actions for delivery in support of the project.
· Commercial interface with all stakeholders within the project both internally and externally ensuring technical and regulatory compliance;
· Detailed risk analysis of the supply chain and asset base to establish a demand pipeline and to drive value delivery in support of the project.
· Shaping and management of supplier relationships to ensure value is delivered, risk is mitigated, and regulatory compliance objectives are met.
· Management and development of robust business partner relationships will be critical to success in the role. You will be expected to leverage experience of procurement strategy and delivery in your field of expertise to build these relationships. The strength of your relationship will enable you to confidently challenge business partners to think and act differently, to be creative and open to new ideas and to explore new supply chain possibilities.
· Experience of influencing and shaping contracts, supplier relationships and contract management will ensure you deliver the expected business benefits from the spend you are managing.
· Contribution to the development of the Procurement function’s capability bringing experience of best practice from other industries and employers.
The Ideal Person will possess the following qualifications, experience, skills and competencies:
§ A university degree and ideally CIPS (or equivalent) qualification
§ Experience of working across global operations or multi-site environments and a keen sense of cultural awareness.
§ Experience ideally gained within commercial procurement in automotive, aerospace, defence, energy storage, power generation, oil and gas or related alternative technology sectors would be highly advantageous. Candidates with pharmaceutical sector, procurement experience in the context of product innovation would also be considered.
§ Understanding of the nuances of Fuel Assembly Systems, Precision Engineering and Automated Process Technology contracts, intellectual property and knowledge and skill in the development of category specific contracts which secure value for our client and mitigate risk as much as possible.
§ A proven track record in value delivery, improvement activity and best practice development in Fuel Assembly Systems, Precision Engineering and Process Technology procurement.
§ Understanding Fuel Assembly Systems, Precision Engineering and Process Technology markets, suppliers and technologies and how to leverage them for value for our client
§ Building Fuel Assembly Systems, Precision Engineering and Process Technology sub-category and category strategies to describe how value will delivered in the short, medium and long term
§ Negotiating with Fuel Assembly Systems, Precision Engineering and Process Technology suppliers to drive the right commercial and contractual outcomes
§ Building relationships internally and externally to enable you to be successful in your role and to contribute to the development of our client as a world-class procurement organisation
§ A thirst for knowledge, an inquisitive mind-set and drive for results.
§ A knowledge of Procurement systems and technologies and the ability to put operational measures in place to ensure contracts deliver brilliantly and in line with project milestones.
