Location: Southport, Merseyside

 

Commutable from Liverpool, Warrington, St Helens and Wigan.

 

Our client is one of the UK's leading designers and manufacturers of Industrial Power Control Products. Boasting a product range of over 400 products, they have a standard product range covering the majority of power control applications. However, where the customer has specific requirements they can provide bespoke design solutions. Their products are sold into a wide variety of industry sectors and market segments, including end users, distributors, contractors and OEMs, across more than 88 countries.

The role of Purchasing Team Leader would suit a reliable and hardworking individual who has a good understanding and knowledge of modern purchasing and supplier development principles and practices. As well as being flexible and willing to learn, they would need to use their own initiative and always seek out better, more cost-and-time-efficient ways of undertaking tasks.

 

The Role:

 

Work alongside the Manufacturing Manager to:

 

* Ensure potential new sources of supply and preferred suppliers are identified, assessed and selected in accordance with associated procedure

* Maintain effective processes for engaging suppliers in continuous improvement / cost reduction activities

* Coordinate activities to ensure approval of supplier first production samples is completed in accordance with associated procedure

 

Lead on and carry out activities to ensure:

 

* Quotations and purchased orders associated with purchase of materials, parts and sub-assemblies are processed in accordance with associated procedures

* Effective use is made of the MRP system to determine / forecast material requirements, monitor and control inventory levels

* Purchase orders are raised and processed and materials are effectively expedited, received, accurately identified and adequately stored

* All purchase ledger queries are appropriately investigated and resolved on a timely basis

* Quality checks on incoming materials are carried out in accordance with defined quality plans

* Stock levels of incoming materials, work in-progress and finished products are accurately recorded

* Housekeeping standards within stores areas are clearly defined, effectively monitored and controlled

* Materials are selected from stores and presented to the production line in a manner that enables continuous and efficient manufacture

* All non-conforming / suspect materials are appropriately identified, required documentation is raised to enable defective material to be returned to suppliers, and the MRP system is updated

* All material handling activities are carried out in accordance with associated health, safety and environmental management policies

 

The Ideal Candidate:

* Will be educated to at least A-level

* Have partial or full CIPS qualification, or willing to work towards one

* Have current/very recent experience in a buyer role

* Has a good understanding and knowledge of modern purchasing and supplier development principles and practices

* Demonstrates sound commercial awareness and makes valid judgments

* Is a good communicator and demonstrates good negotiating skills

* Has good understanding and knowledge of modern material management principles and practices

* Deals firmly and fairly with conflict and maintains discipline and standards

* Plans and allocates work and monitors performance to ensure effective use of resources

* Conducts regular reviews with team members to monitor performance, provide feedback and ensure that individual and team targets are met

* Ensures staff are carrying out work activities in accordance with associated procedures and safe working practices and ensures required improvement actions are taken

* Prioritizes and organizes own work effectively, makes effective use of time, manages tasks according to urgency and importance

* Contributes to the effective application of problem-solving techniques to ensure root causes are determined and appropriate corrective and preventative actions are taken

* Makes effective use of ICT tools / systems
