The Role:

 

As Quarry/Unit Manager, you will specifically focus on leading, directing and effectively managing the quarry operational team to ensure the delivery of exceptional safety, environmental, cost, quality, service, financial and operational targets. The emphasis will be on continuous improvement of operational efficiencies and performance

 

* Operating to the highest level of health and safety in line with our client's Health and Safety Plan, whilst also planning continuous improvement in this area.

* Operating to the highest level of environmental objectives in line with our client's environmental management plan, whilst also planning continuous improvement in this area.

* Ensure all statutory legislation and company regulations are adhered to with respect to all operational activities.

* Achieve optimum production levels in line with commercial activity at the lowest operation cost. Continually advance operational improvements to improve efficiency with the production function.

* Liaise with customers regarding delivery and quality issues and ensuring excellent customer service.

* Working with the logistics function to ensure that operational procedures support the achievement of excellent customer service levels at the most efficient operational cost.

* Working with the technical function to ensure that operational procedures support the achievement of excellent quality levels at the most efficient operational cost.

* Ensure that the quarry operational team are adequately resourced are trained and developed.

* Work closely with maintenance team to ensure that assets are in place and maintained to ensure that the business plan can be delivered, coordinate maintenance activities during a normal day and during shutdowns

* Ensure personnel are effectively developed and become highly competent.

* Ensure operational control mechanisms are effectively implemented covering all relevant aspects (including Health & Safety, environmental controls, capex management control, revenue spend controls).

 

The Ideal Candidate:

 

* Ideally HNC/HND/ Degree qualified or equivalent in an Engineering, Mining or Science discipline or equivalent Quarry Management qualifications such as SHE NVQ level4/QCF level 6.

* Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Minerals Extractives Technology desirable

* You will be able to demonstrate a strong operational quarry/unit management background ideally gained within a cement, aggregates, sand, gravel, stone, concrete, asphalt, hard rock, stone or other building products such as bricks, blocks, paving, stone, glass.

* Experience of quarrying, stripping and restoration, drill and blast operations and geotechnical assessment.

* Experience of quarry management at a site producing 500,000 tonnes plus per annum

* Excellent understanding of working within a process plant or a highly regulated Health, Safety and Environmental centric site will also be considered.

* Excellent quarry operational planning.

* Experience of managing both permanent and contract employees.

* You will ideally hold a SHE NVQ Level 4/QCF level 6 as a minimum, DAPS or equivalent; quarry operations related qualifications plus NEBOSH and IOSH.

* You will be able to demonstrate inspirational leadership and the ability develop a team in achieving best in class standards.

* An effective verbal and written communicator at all levels of an organisation and externally with customers and suppliers.

    • Proactive Equipment Reviews: You'll seek out flaws and anticipate them, guiding maintenance and repair budgeting and planning.
    • Collaborative Analysis: Attend regular meetings that form the backbone of our decision-making processes, such as root cause analysis, ensuring equipment longevity and optimal performance.
    • Knowledge Sharing: With a portion of your time dedicated to understanding every nut and bolt of our site-specific operations, you'll become the go-to for insights on maintaining the pulse of our plant.

     

    About You

    • Qualifications: A solid mechanical background is non-negotiable, with qualifications stretching from modern apprenticeships to HNC/HND levels.
    • Experience: Your background should showcase a robust history in heavy industry environments - think papermills, renewable energy, oil and gas, or similar sectors. This should include recent experience of engineering equipment inspection and condition monitoring. Your role will play a key part in decision making and short-, medium- and long-term planning of proactive maintenance planning including during major shutdowns and associated capital expenditure and resource planning. Root cause analysis will be second nature to you. You will be confident presenting your reports and findings to plant and engineering management.
    • Skills: Adept at using CMMS systems such as SAP or similar, coupled with a deep understanding of equipment safety and operational safety protocols and a keen eye for detail, is essential. Proficiency in Excel and Powerpoint very advantageous. A huge plus is experience with ABB Knowledge Manager, Siemens, and SAP to log all machinery updates/errors and maintenance.
    • Character: Diligent, accountable, and detail-oriented - a person dedicated to understanding and enhancing the continued success and improvement of our client's plant operations.

    Our client is a global leader in the high-performance battery separators industry.

    The Quality Manager will lead the efforts to obtain IATF 16949 certification for the lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery separator expansion project. 

    The Quality Manager will maintain the company library of compliance resources ensuring their accuracy, quality, and integrity and ensure company third party accreditations are maintained. 

    The Quality Manager will coordinate internal audits and monitor the compliance to and effectiveness of the Quality Management System (QMS):

    Responsibilities

    • Lead Li-ion battery separator expansion project to obtain IATF certification.
    • Ensure company third party accreditations are maintained (ISO 9001, IATF16949)
    • Conduct internal audits and lead customer quality audits.
    • Manage internal QMS audits and layered process audits.
    • Establish and support the development of the quality management system processes QMS.
    • Formally report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to senior management
    • Promote customer requirements and quality awareness throughout the organization.

    Requirements:

    • BS degree in appropriate field required ideally a four-year degree with a year in industry.
    • Five years + IATF 16949 Quality Management Systems experience.
    • Project Management experience ideally in the battery industry.
    • Experience with IATF certification (Automotive, etc.) Auditor Certification preferred.
    • Experienced in obtaining IATF 16949 certification and dealing with audits from the major EV Electric Vehicle automotive manufacturers.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
    • Skilled in working across multiple disciplines including Sales, R&D and Operations. 
    • Excellent written, listening, and verbal communication skills.
    • Able to work with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to prioritize, manage time well, multitask and troubleshoot.
