Our client is part of a growing UK based and FTSE quoted international group that manufactures and assembles specification sales led, high quality architectural products from stainless steel sheet and extruded aluminium. Their products are used in major construction projects large and small in the UK and overseas including shopping centres, airports, supermarkets, railway stations, hospitals, schools, offices, factories, swimming pools, public buildings etc. The product range consists of both standard items and also architect specified bespoke designs delivered on a JIT basis within 7/10 days.   So you will be working closely with main contractors and architects during design and construction phases.

The role of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is a key role. It will encompass the design of bespoke aluminium and stainless-steel products from client design briefs. The manufacturing process entails CNC cutting and forming/press machines, CNC machine centre, welding and crimping, assembly and packing. Key projects will include leading the in-house research and development of completely new product ranges/categories.  Also, product currently contracted out for manufacturing in the UK and overseas may be brought back in house. New product development is expected to become a major element of the role as the company grows. 

The Role:
•    Using 3D CAD and CRM systems to undertake the design of bespoke and unique solutions from design briefs at enquiry and order stage to include, when required, the design of structural steel sub frames.
•    Undertake all estimating, pricing, labour and material costing and specifications.
•    To supervise and further train and develop the existing Design Engineer.
•    To make recommendations for design changes that will ensure economical design, improve manufacturing efficiency, product quality or performance.
•    To lead the research and design of new products, ranges and categories.
•    To travel to site when required to assist with product design and feasibility in conjunction with customers and architects. 
•    Work with Production Manager and Business Development Manager on design, productivity, efficiency, quality, Lean projects, ERP implementation and integration of processes etc. 
•    Work with external bodies Eg trade associations and suppliers/contractors concerning material specifications and product testing.

Your Background
•    3D CAD proficiency is essential with Solid Works knowledge preferred or similar software such as AUTOCAD Inventor, Catia or ProEngineer.  Experience of Configure One would be highly advantageous.
•    Knowledge of sheet metal and extruded aluminium design, fabrication and assembly is useful.
•    Graduate calibre qualifications in Design or Engineering including mechanical engineering essential.
•    Able to understand a product brief and to design a practical and cost
effective solution.
•    Have full lifecycle design experience.
•    Ability to carry out detailed structural calculations for steel beams including fixings into concrete slab.
•    Understanding of thermal and fire rating for structural steel work.
•    To have a full knowledge of fits and clearances required to create a successful assembly.
•    Structural knowledge would be useful.
•    Happy to travel to customer sites.

    Your Background

    • 3D CAD proficiency is essential with Solid Works/Solid Edge knowledge preferred or similar software such as AUTOCAD Inventor.
    • Produce detailed AutoCAD design solutions to meet the architect's specification and design intent.
    • Knowledge of glazing design, fabrication and assembly will be important.
    • Experience of design from extruded steel and aluminium.
    • Design Engineering experience gained within the following product sectors: structural glazing systems, façade projects, curtain walling, windows, skylights, rooflights, doors,
    • Degree level qualifications in mechanical design or mechanical engineering or similar
    • Able to fully understand a product brief and to design a practical and cost
      effective solution.
    • Fluency in a second language such as German would be advantageous but not essential.
    • Happy to travel to customer sites.

    • Experience: Your background should showcase a robust history in heavy industry environments - think papermills, renewable energy, oil and gas, or similar sectors. This should include recent experience of engineering equipment inspection and condition monitoring. Your role will play a key part in decision making and short-, medium- and long-term planning of proactive maintenance planning including during major shutdowns and associated capital expenditure and resource planning. Root cause analysis will be second nature to you. You will be confident presenting your reports and findings to plant and engineering management.
    • Skills: Adept at using CMMS systems such as SAP or similar, coupled with a deep understanding of equipment safety and operational safety protocols and a keen eye for detail, is essential. Proficiency in Excel and Powerpoint very advantageous. A huge plus is experience with ABB Knowledge Manager, Siemens, and SAP to log all machinery updates/errors and maintenance.

    Our client is a global leader in the high-performance battery separators industry.

    The Quality Manager will lead the efforts to obtain IATF 16949 certification for the lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery separator expansion project. 

    The Quality Manager will maintain the company library of compliance resources ensuring their accuracy, quality, and integrity and ensure company third party accreditations are maintained. 

    The Quality Manager will coordinate internal audits and monitor the compliance to and effectiveness of the Quality Management System (QMS):

    Responsibilities

    • Lead Li-ion battery separator expansion project to obtain IATF certification.
    • Ensure company third party accreditations are maintained (ISO 9001, IATF16949)
    • Conduct internal audits and lead customer quality audits.
    • Manage internal QMS audits and layered process audits.
    • Establish and support the development of the quality management system processes QMS.
    • Formally report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to senior management
    • Promote customer requirements and quality awareness throughout the organization.

    Requirements:

    • BS degree in appropriate field required ideally a four-year degree with a year in industry.
    • Five years + IATF 16949 Quality Management Systems experience.
    • Project Management experience ideally in the battery industry.
    • Experience with IATF certification (Automotive, etc.) Auditor Certification preferred.
    • Experienced in obtaining IATF 16949 certification and dealing with audits from the major EV Electric Vehicle automotive manufacturers.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
    • Skilled in working across multiple disciplines including Sales, R&D and Operations. 
    • Excellent written, listening, and verbal communication skills.
    • Able to work with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to prioritize, manage time well, multitask and troubleshoot.
