CUSTOMS BROKERAGE COORDINATOR– INTERNATIONAL MULTI MODAL LOGISTICS

They are now seeking an experienced Customs Brokerage Coordinator to join a well-established customs and key account management team supporting the international supply chains of several market leading retail brands across fashion/apparel, homewares, health and beauty.
You will be based at our client’s brand-new head office in East London which is located very close to a mainline and tube Station – our client also operates a free shuttle bus from the station to their offices which takes just 5-10 minutes.
As a Customs Brokerage Coordinator you will work across a variety of accounts, supporting the Customs Team Lead and assisting in the running of the logistics brokerage department for imports and exports for Air, Sea and Road completing HM Customs Inbound Freight Declarations as required.
The Role of Customs Brokerage Coordinator:
- Maintain current knowledge of customs legislation, political / commercial documentation and the HMRC tariff.
- Establish effective communication with operational teams.
- Communication with customers on customs issues.
- Ensure proper use of deferment accounts.
- Work flexibly with other members of the customs team.
- Responsible for running monthly reports from the CFSP Ricardo software.
- Ensure work is processed to meet monthly deadlines for which non –compliance can lead to penalties.
- Act as point of reference and answer queries and support other Customs Coordinators,
- Notify Customs of any late entries, entered outside normal timescale, by email, calculating the approximate duty and VAT by trader.
- Working with operations teams ensure that payment and/or satisfactory payment method is obtained prior to release.
- Deliver first class customer service to be measured by internal /external KPIs and customer service feedback.
- Assist other teams within the department to ensure that the common goal is achieved.
- To maintain integrity of Customs Brokerage product in terms of timeliness and accuracy.
- CFSP entry process via Ricardo software of articulating issues and proposed solutions with both internal and external customers.
- Creativity in identifying efficiencies for the customer and our client.
- The ability to manage your workload and identify which tasks take a higher priority.
The Ideal Candidate:
- At least 18 months experience in a similar role within the shipping industry/ freight forwarding
- Full knowledge of customs procedures and principles on Imports, Exports and Transit on all transport modes including knowledge on Customs Warehousing, Transit (NCTS) and CFSP
- Trade Qualification (BIFA) in Customs Procedures an advantage.
- Have a methodical and organized approach to work with the ability to think ahead and prioritise tasks.
- The successful applicant will ideally be able to quickly respond effectively to changing demands and be able to apply good problem-solving skills.
- In depth knowledge of tariff classification.
- First class attention to detail
- This experience may have been gained within a 3PL, or an international freight forwarder/multi modal operator or within a major international or European retailer specialising in fast moving apparel, homewares or grocery.
- Expertise will include a strong overall understanding of the retail supply chain from order management, vendor management, consolidation, global air, sea and land freight management, multi modal transportation, international hub management, deconsolidation, regional and destination distribution centres, store order fulfilment, distribution management.
- Fluent in English. A second European or International Language would be highly advantageous.
- Highly numerate, analytical and commercially aware with the capability to deal with complexity.
- Capability to be both reactive and proactive within an extremely fast paced, high growth international retail environment.
- Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
