Our client is a well-established UK division of a global multinational manufacturer within the food and beverages sector.

They are seeking an experienced Maintenance & Engineering Manager to lead a multi skilled engineering team of fifteen, including three supervisors, at their flagship UK site, which employs c120 people.

The Role:

Reporting to the Plant Director, you will lead a team of electricians and mechanical fitters and process control ensuring that plant equipment and maintenance systems are maintained, developed, and improved within a lean manufacturing and continuous improvement environment and culture. A key objective will be to improve reliability, PPM and OEE.

The focus will be on safety first and zero harm and as Maintenance & Engineering Manager you will proactively champion and promote this safe working culture ethos amongst your team and contractors.

You will lead the daily management of a production critical maintenance department within a FMCG, 24/7 manufacturing site.

Our client is therefore seeking a time served/HND/Degree qualified Engineering professional (electrical and/or mechanical) with a recent track record of engineering maintenance team senior leadership gained within a FMCG quality focused, manufacturing operation.


The Ideal Candidate:

* Qualified in engineering with a good understanding of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. Qualifications in 18th edition/equivalent, IOSH, NEBOSH

* Your engineering & maintenance team management experience will be from a very high safety culture, FMCG food or beverage manufacturing/processing or similar environment.

* Experience using lean and continuous improvement techniques including root cause analysis and fault-finding techniques will be critical to success. Change and project management experience will therefore be highly advantageous.

* You will have experience of preparing and managing engineering budgets.

* An appreciation of a wide variety of engineering disciplines i.e. electrical, mechanical, chemical, process control and optimisation will be critical to success and credibility in this role.

* Excellent project management skills are essential as you will play a key role, on capital expenditure projects.

* A high level of IT literacy is essential i.e. Microsoft and maintenance management and process control systems such as Siemens, Alan Bradley etc

* You will be an excellent communicator both in written and verbal format with confidence, strong leadership presence, and technical and professional credibility.

* You will have a demonstrable track record of maintenance team leadership, motivation, and development, working closely with HR to produce competency matrices, training plans, talent identification, coaching and mentoring.

* You will be an adept at engaging at all levels from the maintenance team to senior management within a matrix structure, with well-honed persuasion and influencing skills.

    • Work with external bodies, e.g. Trade Associations, and suppliers/contractors concerning material specifications and product testing.
    • To travel to site when required to assist with product design and feasibility in conjunction with customers and architects.

     

    Your Background

    • 3D CAD proficiency is essential with Solid Works/Solid Edge knowledge preferred or similar software such as AUTOCAD Inventor.
    • Produce detailed AutoCAD design solutions to meet the architect's specification and design intent.
    • Knowledge of glazing design, fabrication and assembly will be important.
    • Experience of design from extruded steel and aluminium.
    • Design Engineering experience gained within the following product sectors: structural glazing systems, façade projects, curtain walling, windows, skylights, rooflights, doors,
    • Degree level qualifications in mechanical design or mechanical engineering or similar
    • Able to fully understand a product brief and to design a practical and cost
      effective solution.
    • Fluency in a second language such as German would be advantageous but not essential.
    • Happy to travel to customer sites.

    The Role:

    Reporting to the Engineering Projects Manager, you will be responsible for:

    • Delivering CAPEX projects safely, within budget and on time
    • Proactive engagement in Safety & Health performance and behaviours of the project engineering team and contractors to continuously improvement safety practices and standards on site.
    • Assist with the preparation of cost estimates for planned engineering work, controlling capital spending and timelines

    • A project management qualification such as PMI. APM or Prince2 would be advantageous although training can be provided.
    • Working knowledge of the following regulations CDM, DSEAR, PUWER, LOLER, COSHH etc
    • Strong understanding and hands on experience of heavy industrial processing operations and maintenance.
    • Safety oriented with excellent, best in class, Safety and Health knowledge including risk assessments gained within heavy industrial processing environment.
    • Minimum IOSHH Working Safely Certificate.
    • Proven leadership experience either gained in an operational/maintenance leadership or project engineering role.
    • Excellent persuasion and influencing skills, with the ability to challenge, question and collaboratively develop logical solutions.
    • Excellent, planning, scheduling, and project/programme/work stream management capabilities.
    • Experience of managing/liaising with contractors undertaking maintenance and other capital projects, ensuring compliance to health & safety and projects schedules.
    • Working towards or willing to attain chartered engineer status.

    • Proficient computer skills, specifically with applications such as SAP, AutoCAD and Microsoft Project.
    • An understanding of Statistical Process Control is highly advantageous.

    You will perform inspections and maintenance, responding in a timely manner to breakdown repairs with a keen eye to continuous improvement and to high standards in line with safety, quality and environmental targets. You will also represent the department on site working committees where required.


    The Role:

    Working with Plant Production & Maintenance teams and reporting to the Plant Electrical Executive Engineer:

    • Completion of planned preventative maintenance activities
    • Carrying out fault finding and corrective repair work
    • Maintenance operations and accuracy of plant instrumentation including gas analysis systems.
    • Record maintenance activities for plant history and capture and create further work requests through SAP based plant planned maintenance system (CMMS)
    • Carry out planned maintenance and major repairs.
    • Assist in the commissioning of new plant and equipment.
    • Assist with plant isolations and verification.
    • Ensure compliance with H&S and Environmental legislation and Company and site H&S rules

    Qualifications and skills

    • Apprentice trained electrician/electrical/process control craftsperson educated to ONC/HNC/Degree (NVQ level 3 or 4) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
    • 18th edition wiring regulations
    • Experience in a continuous process industry, factory, chemical, cement, lime, powders, aggregates, construction material or other industrial processing environment including full competence in maintaining large plant equipment.
    • Fully competent in maintenance systems with experience of working in a processing/industrial environment.
    • Understanding of health, safety and environmental issues/risks
    • PLC, inverter drives, gas analytics, explosive atmospheres and telemetry experience preferred.
    • DCS experience desired.
    • Knowledge off process control and instrumentation systems
    • Experience of hydraulic and pneumatic systems useful
    • Knowledge and experience of HV/LV switchgearand control gear systems
    • Working knowledge of maintenance management systems eg SAP or MAXIMO
    • Good working knowledge of electrical isolation
    • Experience in medium/heavy industry is useful
    • Must be able to work as a member of a team as well as individually.
