SITE ENGINEERING MANAGER - PRODUCTION & PROCESSING PLANT

Our client, part of a global multinational, is a market leader and operates several plants in the UK.

They are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to take the lead at a strategically important site located in Essex.

Reporting to the Site Manager, the Engineering Manager, will operate as part of a national Engineering & Manufacturing Excellence function and will lead a team of electricians and mechanical fitters, ensuring that plant equipment and maintenance systems are maintained, developed and improved within a lean manufacturing and Continuous Improvement environment and culture. The focus is safety first and zero harm and as Site Engineering Manager you will champion and proactively promote this safe working ethos amongst your team and contractors. You will lead the daily management of a production critical maintenance department on a processing/manufacturing site which operates on a 24/7 basis. Assets include hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, steam, boiler systems, PLC's, cutting, packaging and palletising equipment.

Therefore, our client is seeking an Engineering professional (electrical and/or mechanical) with a recent track record of engineering and maintenance team leadership gained within a "best in class", quality focused, manufacturing operation.

As a member of the senior management team, the Site Engineering Manager will manage an experienced and competent team of mechanical and electrical engineers and will work with the Production Manager and cross functional colleagues in implementing all maintenance operations both, mechanical and electrical across inspection, planning, scheduling, execution and improvement phases. The focus will be on delivering a culture of continuous improvement and proactive maintenance not only in maintenance operations but also safety and health, environmental compliance and plant reliability, establishing strong relationships both internally with central Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence and externally with OEMS and contractors.

The Role

* Develop a high-performing engineering and maintenance team with a culture of delivery and continuous improvement through effective leadership and management to deliver operational excellence.

* Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory legislation and the internal company Safety, Health and Environmental Standards.

* Drive improvements in plant availability and performance, including costs, through the implementation of company engineering maintenance best practices across the whole site.

* Own, develop and evolve the engineering maintenance strategy, implementing a common maintenance platform.

* To monitor and ensure implementation and delivery of engineering maintenance procedures, initiatives and controls across all areas of responsibility.

* Liaise between functions to ensure teamwork, consistency, co ordination and best practice to eliminate losses from poor practices or communication and to expedite learning.

* As part of the senior management team, develop annual maintenance budgets, highlighting operational constraints and the value adding performance that Engineering can make.

* Ensure the application of defect elimination/Pareto/root cause failure analysis to all losses and be responsible for the recommendation/implementation of solutions.

* Management of the established site maintenance, planning and cost reporting systems to maximise their potential to the organisation.

* Keep abreast of and apply where appropriate new condition monitoring technologies, maintenance improvement 'tools' and processes.

* Support the development of engineering staff by defining, and where necessary, providing training in activities that support maintenance improvement and coaching.

* Define and implement KPI's to monitor the performance of all maintenance employees and contractors.

* Apply and communicate the national engineering and maintenance improvement strategy for the site including proactively supporting cross functionally to ensure maintenance practices are adopted and implemented.

The Ideal Candidate:

* Qualified in electrical engineering with a good understanding of mechanical engineering or vice versa. Qualifications in 17th edition, IOSH, NEBOSH would be highly advantageous.

* Your engineering & maintenance team management experience will be from a very high safety culture, heavy industrial processing sector such as steel, chemicals, cement, construction materials, energy/power or similar environment.

* Experience using lean and continuous improvement techniques will be critical to success. Change and project management experience will therefore be highly advantageous.

* You will have experience of preparing and managing engineering budgets.

* An appreciation of a wide variety of engineering disciplines i.e. electrical, mechanical, chemical, process control and optimisation will be critical to success and credibility in this role.

* Excellent project management skills are essential as you will play a key site lead role, as part of the national engineering and manufacturing excellence team, on capital expenditure projects.

* A high level of IT literacy is essential i.e. Microsoft and maintenance management and process control systems.

* You will be an excellent communicator both in written and verbal format with executive presence, gravitas and technical and professional credibility.

* You will have a demonstrable track record of maintenance team leadership, motivation and development, working closely with HR to produce competency matrices, training plans, talent identification, coaching and mentoring.

* You will be an adept at engaging at all levels from the maintenance team to senior management nationally and cross functionally, with well-honed persuasion and influencing skills.

    • Manage design/ drawing approval process with customers and European design team at HO.
    • Undertake drawing amendments as required.
    • Provide technical advice to customers and assist with the specification of glazing products.
    • Work with external bodies, e.g. Trade Associations, and suppliers/contractors concerning material specifications and product testing.
    • To travel to site when required to assist with product design and feasibility in conjunction with customers and architects.

     

    Your Background

    • 3D CAD proficiency is essential with Solid Works/Solid Edge knowledge preferred or similar software such as AUTOCAD Inventor.
    • Produce detailed AutoCAD design solutions to meet the architect's specification and design intent.
    • Knowledge of glazing design, fabrication and assembly will be important.
    • Experience of design from extruded steel and aluminium.
    • Design Engineering experience gained within the following product sectors: structural glazing systems, façade projects, curtain walling, windows, skylights, rooflights, doors,
    • Degree level qualifications in mechanical design or mechanical engineering or similar
    • Able to fully understand a product brief and to design a practical and cost
      effective solution.
    • Fluency in a second language such as German would be advantageous but not essential.
    • Happy to travel to customer sites.

    Our client is a European market leader in the manufacture and supply of structural glazing systems to the industrial, educational and commercial sector including hotels, airports, shopping centres, schools, rail/underground, and commercial developments. This role will focus specifically on specification sales to Architects and Specifiers in London and the South East.

    This is a newly created position to support our client's growth plans for its unique and marketing leading range of structural glazing products and solutions in the UK industrial and commercial specification sales market. They would like to increase their coverage and brand recognition with the appointment of a London/SE based Specification Sales Manager with a network of partnerships with Architects and Specifiers.

     

    You will cover a territory spanning the South/South East around the M25, Greater London and surrounding Home Counties such as Essex, Hertfordshire, Middlesex, Buckinghamshire. The successful candidate will therefore be field based in the Southern region around the M25, M27, M1, M3, M4.

     

    The Specification Sales Management role will be very much focused on new business development, key account and project management selling our client's full range of structural glazing solutions to architects and specifiers predominantly in relation to yearly and multiyear design and construction development projects. Therefore, you must have experience of specification sales, building relationships with architects including technical discussions about the installation of products and management of the quotation bank within the territory. Most importantly you will have a strong established network of contacts within the structured glazing systems, specialist glass, windows, doors, skylights, curtain walling, facades systems, drylining, insulation, roofing, or other similar specialist construction or architectural components for commercial and industrial builds.

     

    The Role:

    * Based from a home office, and under the direction of and reporting to the UK Managing Director, you will foster and promote the sale of structural glazing systems within the Southern/South East, Greater London region.

    * Call on current and prospective customers or specifiers (architect or specifying engineer) to explain the advantages of our client's products and their capabilities, and assist in defining project requirements, influencing the preparation of specifications or matching products with existing specifications. Communicate our client's value proposition in comparison with other similar competitor products in the marketplace.

    * Analyse major construction job requirements for special or unique applications and provide technical input to arrive at an engineered solution. Use sketches, drawings and calculations (as required) to focus on requirements, and provide customer with best options. Work as a liaison between the customer and our client's Head Office to expedite or resolve final design requirements as necessary.

    * Maintain tracking system, and follow up all calls and enquiries to ensure that the order is closed. Analyse any problems presented by the customer, develop appropriate solutions, and assist customer in resolving the concern.

    * Work closely with Head Office, including the design and technical team to develop strategic pricing for major contracts and partnering agreements when required.

    * Maintain an effective, ongoing relationship with repeat and key account customers.

    * Maintain appropriate contact with the Head Office. Provide specified reports to the Managing Director on a timely basis.

    * Monitor competitor activity and market trends within the territory, and make appropriate recommendations regarding them.

    * Participate in identifying new markets or new needs for existing products, and new market needs for new products. Participate in the development of specific sales strategies to increase sales of individual products / product lines. As requested, undertake projects relating to business and sales development within defined territories.

    * Make PowerPoint or other types of presentations at CPD roadshow events, seminars, or conferences to communicate the advantages of our client's products.

    * Perform other related duties as assigned or warranted by conditions.

     

    The Ideal Candidate:

     

    * University degree/graduate calibre/A Level education.

    * Currently undertaking a similar Specification Sales, new business development, sales hunter and consultative selling role within the structural glazing systems, specialised glass, windows, doors, skylights, curtain walling, facades or other similar specialist construction or architectural components for commercial and industrial builds. Candidates with experience of other architectural products for large scale industrial/commercial projects will also be considered.

    * Will possess an established network of specification sales contacts from the commercial and industrial build/construction sector such as Architects and Specifiers.

    * This must include experience of specifications, building relationships with architects and including CPD presentations, technical discussions about the installation of products and the quotation process.

    * Articulate, with good written and verbal communication skills.

    * Ability to see projects through from enquiry to quotation to order, maintaining contact and confidently handling objections at every stage.

    * Detail oriented and familiar with CRM systems.

    * Experience / knowledge of the industrial and commercial construction industry in the South East/London.

    * Familiar with construction site visits to undertake inspections, with strict adherence to health and safety requirements.

    * Computer literate including Excel, Powerpoint and CRM systems.

    * Currently undertaking a similar field based role in the London/South East area.

    As one of their Credit Underwriters, you will play a pivotal role in the growth and expansion of their asset finance and loans business. Working alongside the Head of Credit & Risk, you will be responsible for reviewing and/or underwriting larger finance requirements and deals within the delegated authority framework. In addition to this, you will help shape their credit policies and oversee deal structuring, approval processes, and credit administration.

You will possess significant underwriting experience, ideally within either the SME asset finance or commercial loans markets. A thorough understanding of the credit process with a strong knowledge of leasing will be essential.
