INTERIM SENIOR BUYER IT

When recruiting a role that involves the protection of critical UK infrastructure, there's a temptation to get all James Bond about it.
We could try and get your attention by saying things like, "Have you dreamed of protecting the nation and being a national hero or heroine"?
But, let's face it, you're a Senior IT Category Buying Specialist. And high-speed car chases around UK cities aren't usually part of the job. Unless you've just dropped your caramel latte in your lap, perhaps.
However, this is a crucial role for our client, a global player within the specialist energy, electricity and power generation sector. Our client is offering a 12-18 months contract to join their IT procurement team.
They're focused on improving efficiency in their global operations and making sure their data and systems are secure and robust.
As such, they want to strengthen their IT procurement team with the appointment of a category and procurement management professional into the role of Senior Buyer/Category Specialist - IT.
That's where you fit in. And you won't need a car that turns into a submarine.
Currently, their IT Infrastructure, Cyber Defence and Application Development are outsourced. So, your focus will be on next generation outsourcing with high levels of customer satisfaction as a key driver for our client's IT strategy.
Reporting to a Senior Category Manager, you will also work closely with the IT/Information Technology team, and your role will take on a UK and European perspective.
Core Aims:
- Working across different departments, develop plans for the next few years that incorporate the crucial aims for the category and a list of actions to achieve these goals.
- Build solid relationships with suppliers to ensure they understand your requirements and deliver on SLAs. Then, use those strong relationships to confidently challenge business partners to think and act differently, to be creative and open to new ideas and to explore new supply chain possibilities.
- Contribute to the development of the Procurement function's capability by bringing your experience of best practices from other industries and employers.
The Ideal Person will possess the following qualifications, experience, skills and competencies:
- Available imminently to commence a 12-18 months contract paying £500 per day via an Umbrella company.
- A university degree and, ideally, CIPS (or equivalent) qualification
- Experience working across global operations or multi-site environments and a keen sense of cultural awareness
- Currently working within a high-security sector such as defence, nuclear, aerospace, marine, ministry of defence, utilities etc.
- Understanding of the nuances of IT contracts.
- A proven track record in value delivery, improvement activity and best practice development in IT procurement.

As an experienced IT Director from the warehousing and logistics sector, you know how multiple sites can evolve different systems. It starts with one needing a particular software for managing a specific client contract, and before you know what's happened, each site is running its own system, and it all becomes a bit chaotic?
Our client has multiple sites in the APAC region and can see their legacy systems will hinder their growth. So, they are looking for an IT Director with significant experience in contract logistics in APAC to modernise and standardise their IT platforms in the region.
Initially, you will run a major project to replace all the existing in-house WMS systems whilst also implementing new business and managing global vendors for our client (based in Singapore, Thailand, and India).
It sounds pretty straightforward, doesn't it? Simply select and roll out the best warehousing and transportation software across our client's 50 sites.
But from your experience, you'll know what's actually involved in managing projects of this size in different countries. Firstly, you need a high-calibre team, which our client already has in place. They are a well-established engineering company, headquartered in the UK. Due to a change in the group structure, they are now looking for a Finance Director to lead the team at their main EU site in Germany.
As an experienced Finance Director, you'll already understand the detail of this role. In summary, you'll be managing the operational day-to-day financial transactions, KPIs, cash flow planning and forecasting through monthly reports and budgets that can be presented to the senior stakeholders including the MD, Sales Director, and Manufacturing Director. Senior management have also identified potential high-performing individuals in the finance team who they would like you to develop and mentor. Treasury accounting and related aspects will be covered at Group level so this is very much an operational Finance Director role.
The company currently also has a four-person shared service team, which supports other EU countries. Next year, this will fall under your responsibility, giving you scope to liaise with the other group companies across Europe.
You will be degree educated in business administration, accounting or (financial) controlling and an experienced Financial Controller/Finance Director. But, let's face it, you're a Senior IT Category Buying Specialist. And high-speed car chases around UK cities aren't usually part of the job. Unless you've just dropped your caramel latte in your lap, perhaps.
However, this is a crucial role for our client, a global player within the specialist energy, electricity and power generation sector. Our client is offering a 12-18 months contract to join their IT procurement team.
They're focused on improving efficiency in their global operations and making sure their data and systems are secure and robust.
As such, they want to strengthen their IT procurement team with the appointment of a category and procurement management professional into the role of Senior Buyer/Category Specialist - IT.
That's where you fit in. And you won't need a car that turns into a submarine.
Currently, their IT Infrastructure, Cyber Defence and Application Development are outsourced. So, your focus will be on next generation outsourcing with high levels of customer satisfaction as a key driver for our client's IT strategy.
Reporting to a Senior Category Manager, you will also work closely with the IT/Information Technology team, and your role will take on a UK and European perspective.
Core Aims:
- Working across different departments, develop plans for the next few years that incorporate the crucial aims for the category and a list of actions to achieve these goals.
- Build solid relationships with suppliers to ensure they understand your requirements and deliver on SLAs. Then, use those strong relationships to confidently challenge business partners to think and act differently, to be creative and open to new ideas and to explore new supply chain possibilities.
- Contribute to the development of the Procurement function's capability by bringing your experience of best practices from other industries and employers.
The Ideal Person will possess the following qualifications, experience, skills and competencies:
- Available imminently to commence a 12-18 months contract paying £500 per day via an Umbrella company.
- A university degree and, ideally, CIPS (or equivalent) qualification
- Experience working across global operations or multi-site environments and a keen sense of cultural awareness
- Currently working within a high-security sector such as defence, nuclear, aerospace, marine, ministry of defence, utilities etc.
- Understanding of the nuances of IT contracts.
- A proven track record in value delivery, improvement activity and best practice development in IT procurement.
- Understanding Information Technology markets, suppliers and technologies and how to leverage them for value for our client
- Building IT sub-category and category strategies to describe how value will be delivered in the short, medium and long term
- Negotiating with IT- suppliers to drive the right commercial and contractual outcomes
- Building relationships internally and externally to enable you to be successful in your role and to contribute to the development of our client as a world-class procurement organisation
- A thirst for knowledge, an inquisitive mindset and a drive for results.
- Knowledge of Procurement systems and technologies and the ability to put operational measures in place to ensure contracts deliver brilliantly.

This expansion includes the establishment of an additional new warehouse to support manufacturing supply chains across several industry sectors including pharmaceutical cold chain, multi temperature food, hi tech and automotive. To support their future growth, they would like to bring on board a Commercial Director with experience in palletised logistics, particularly between the UK, Ireland, and Europe. The Role
- Responsible for developing high-level relationships with new & existing customers, facilitating new business as a result
- Work with the commercial team to identify clients and opportunities for new business
- Develop strong working relationships with key decision-makers in target clients
- Facilitate the solutions design and business development process, supporting and guiding the commercial team with every aspect of senior client relations
- Manage senior client relationships once business is secured to ensure long-term profitability and growth
- Develop and implement commercial strategies according to company goals and objectives aiming to accelerate growth
- Conduct market analysis to create detailed strategic business plans on commercial opportunities (expansion, business development etc.)
- Understand the requirements of existing customers to ensure their needs are being met
- Act to acquire new customers and manage client relationships (new and existing)
- Collaborate with and coordinate diverse teams (marketing, sales, customer service etc.)
- Build and maintain profitable partnerships with key stakeholders
- Monitor performance of commercial activities using key metrics and prepare reports for senior management
- Assist in setting financial targets and budget development and monitoring

As result of dynamic growth our client is seeking a very innovative, degree educated, Director of Solutions Design from the global 3PL/contract logistics sector. You will lead a solutions design team across transport, warehousing and value-added solutions working with clients across the Japanese cluster. Experience of robotic process automation warehousing solutions design would be advantageous.
You will support the Country Leadership Team to develop and deploy commercial strategies. You lead, coach, and develop the Japanese solutions design team. You will also programme manage solutions design projects and resources.
We are seeking individuals with experience of various types of transport, warehousing and storage including robotic process automation, automatic storage and retrieval systems. Experience of transport and warehousing/distribution centre design solutions for the Japanese market and building structure regulatory environment will be critical to success. Fluency in Japanese would be highly advantageous but not essential.
The Role:
* Managing a team of Warehousing/Transport & Valued Added Logistics Solutions Design Managers and Analysts, you will support the country Business Development and Implementation teams in developing innovative, cost effective and profitable warehousing and supply chain solutions for new and existing multinational and regional clients.
* Through strategic consulting assignments, you will work at operational strategic and Board level to identify business issues focused on process improvement and cost effectiveness; propose value adding and innovative solutions and subsequently manage the delivery of projects.
* This will entail analysis of existing inhouse and customer operations and the subsequent design of proposals, managing resource and cross functional teams during implementation, planning and solutions delivery. In addition, you will develop the supply chain solutions design strategy and manage the departmental budget.
* As Director of Logistics Solutions Design your role will be broad - leading solutions design projects as a Subject Matter Expert across transport, robotic process automation specialist, material handling, automated warehousing design, supply chain and logistics systems, strategy, commercial, key account management, management accountant, facilitator, leader, mentor, coach and project manager.
* You will possess extensive expertise in transport and warehousing solutions design, planning, projects, consultancy, value chain engineering and productivity improvement. You will be highly proficient in liaising, presenting and working at Board level both internally and externally with key strategic multinational client accounts.
* You will direct and manage your team in multiple implementation and re-engineering projects enabling cost and service improvements whilst at the same time managing teams involved in new operational start-ups.
The Ideal Applicant:
* The ideal applicant will be educated to degree/Masters degree level in Engineering, Business or similar and will possess a substantial and demonstrative track record of successful project delivery gained within a global multinational third party contract logistics solutions design/projects environment.
* We are inviting applications from either highly accomplished and experienced professionals seeking to consolidate and apply their solutions design leadership and coaching experience in a new and challenging growth environment or alternatively someone with at least 8-10 years fast track operational and strategic solutions design experience who wishes to step into country logistics solutions design leadership role heading up and developing an accomplished team of solutions design specialists.
* Experience of transport and warehousing solutions design, supply chain optimisation, automated robotic process and warehouse design tools as well as formal project management capabilities will be a prerequisite. Experience of managing multi-disciplined teams is essential.
* It is imperative that you will be possess a portfolio of successful projects completed across, for example, retail and FMCG, industrial, technology or pharmaceutical verticals.
* Third Party Solutions design experience as a Senior Manager, General Manager, Head of, Senior Consultant/Partner or Project Director may have been supplemented with experience in one of the following environments: inhouse global multinational logistics fulfilment facilities design team; materials handling solutions design provider; or automation solutions/automated robotic process design consultancy.
* Most importantly you will also have a demonstrable track record of success in coaching and developing a team of Solutions Design Analysts and Managers, ensuring a consistent, best in class approach.
* Previous international/multi country solutions design and solutions design and implementation project team leadership would be extremely advantageous, as would, cultural experience and understanding of living and working in Japan would be highly advantageous.
