NORTHERN REGION SPECIFICATION SALES MANAGER 
CONSTRUCTION/BUILDING/ARCHITECTURAL MATERIALS/INDUSTRIAL FLOORING SOLUTIONS

c£40-45000 + upto 30% bonus + Car/Allowance + Benefits

Location: Field/Home Based

Our client is a market leader in the supply of flooring/tiling, roofing, security, access solutions to the industrial and commercial sector including hotels, hospitals/care homes, university student accommodation, mixed use commercial and residential developments, interior design and fit out sector working with architects, specifiers and main contractors. 

This is a newly created position to support our client's growth plans for its range of products and solutions in the UK industrial and commercial specification sales market. They would like to increase their coverage and brand recognition with the appointment of regionally located Specification Sales Managers including a Northern Region Specification Sales Manager to cover the Northern England and Scottish Borders region.

You will cover a territory spanning from Cheshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire, the North East and the Scottish Borders.  The successful candidate will therefore be field based in the Northern region in along the M1, A1(M), M6, M62, M63 corridors. 

The Specification Sales Management role will be very much focused on new business development, key account and project management selling our client’s full range of security and access solutions to architects and specifiers predominantly in relation to multiyear design and construction development projects.  Therefore, you must have experience of specification sales, building relationships with architects and main contractors including technical discussions about the installation of products, management of the quotation bank within the territory. Most importantly you will have a strong established network of contacts within the flooring/tiling, security, access solutions, roofing or other similar specialist construction or architectural materials for commercial and industrial builds.

The Role:

⦁    Based from a home office, and under the direction of and reporting to the Sales Director, you will foster and promote the sale of architectural products including floor access covers within the Central and Midlands region.
⦁    Call on current and prospective customers or specifiers (architect or specifying engineer) to explain the advantages of our client’s architectural products including access covers and their capabilities, and assist in defining project requirements, influencing the preparation of specifications or matching our products with existing specifications.  Communicate our client’s value proposition in comparison with other similar competitor products in the marketplace.
⦁    Analyse major construction job requirements for special or unique applications and provide technical input to arrive at an engineered solution.  Use sketches, drawings and calculations (as required) to focus on requirements, and provide customer with best options.  Work as a liaison between the customer and our client’s Head Office to expedite or resolve final design requirements as necessary.
⦁    Maintain tracking system, and follow up all calls and enquiries to ensure that the order is closed.  Analyse any problems presented by the customer, develop appropriate solutions, and assist customer in resolving the concern.   
⦁    Work closely with Head Office, including the design and technical team to develop strategic pricing for major contracts and partnering agreements when required.
⦁    Maintain an effective, ongoing relationship with repeat and key account customers.  
⦁    Maintain appropriate contact with the Head Office. Provide specified reports to the Sales Director on a timely basis.
⦁    Monitor competitor activity and market trends within the territory, and make appropriate recommendations regarding them.  
⦁    Participate in identifying new markets or new needs for existing products, and new market needs for new products.  Participate in the development of specific sales strategies to increase sales of individual products / product lines.  As requested, undertake projects relating to business and sales development within defined territories.
⦁    Make PowerPoint or other types of presentations at CPD roadshow events, seminars, or conferences to communicate the advantages of our client’s products.
⦁    Perform other related duties as assigned or warranted by conditions.

The Ideal Candidate:

⦁    University degree/graduate calibre education.
⦁    Currently undertaking a similar Specification Sales, new business development, sales hunter and consultative selling role within the industrial/commercial flooring and tiling, roofing, security and access solutions marketplace.  Candidates with experience of other architectural products for large scale industrial/commercial projects will also be considered.
⦁    Will possess an established network of specification sales contacts from the commercial and industrial build sector. 
⦁    This must include experience of experience of specifications, building relationships with architects and main contractors including CPD presentations, technical discussions about the installation of products and the quotation process.
⦁    Articulate, with good written and verbal communication skills.
⦁    Ability to see projects through from enquiry to quotation to order, maintaining contact and confidently handling objections at every stage.
⦁    Detail oriented and familiar with CRM systems.
⦁    Experience / knowledge of the industrial and commercial construction industry
⦁    Familiar with construction site visits to undertake inspections, with strict adherence to health and safety requirements.
⦁    Computer literate including Excel, Powerpoint and CRM systems.
⦁    Currently undertaking a similar field based role covering a large territory such as the Midlands and North and comfortable with staying away for up to two days at a time to meet customers.

    The Role:

    Reporting to the Engineering Projects Manager, you will be responsible for:

    • Delivering CAPEX projects safely, within budget and on time
    • Proactive engagement in Safety & Health performance and behaviours of the project engineering team and contractors to continuously improvement safety practices and standards on site.
    • Assist with the preparation of cost estimates for planned engineering work, controlling capital spending and timelines
    • Assist with the preparation and implementation of capital expenditure budgets for each project ensuring defined key performance indicators (KPIs)
    • Assist with preparation of annual budgets for engineering and maintenance projects.
    • Determine the scope of work, evaluate proposals, and participate in the selection of contractors
    • Assist in negotiating contracts and oversee contracts during the course of the work to ensure compliance with proposed design, material specifications, and schedules
    • Perform project design work including researching data, conducting feasibility and economic studies, and determining design criteria in accordance with required standards
    • Prepare project documents including project justifications, budget analyses, calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and schedules for assigned facility projects
    • Review and check engineering drawings, plans, calculations, estimates and reports for completeness and accuracy
    • Determine the scope of work, prepare requests for proposals, evaluate proposals, and participate in the selection of consultants for utilities projects
    • Ensure quality control by taking responsibility for schedule coordination and evaluating, recommending, and preparing contract change orders as necessary
    • Obtain certification and conformance to current regulations for new and modified structures
    • Work with process engineering and maintenance personnel to implement projects, either on their behalf, jointly, or in an advisory role, depending on the project
    • Provide comprehensive technical assistance to optimise plant equipment performance and utilise technical expertise to continuously determine, evaluate and improve equipment/system

    The Ideal Applicant:

    • Degree/Master's in Engineering - chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or similar.
    • Current or very recent project engineering experience ideally gained within a heavy industrial processing environment such as such as steel, chemicals, cement, construction materials, energy/power or similar environment.
    • A project management qualification such as PMI. APM or Prince2 would be advantageous although training can be provided.
    • Working knowledge of the following regulations CDM, DSEAR, PUWER, LOLER, COSHH etc
    • Strong understanding and hands on experience of heavy industrial processing operations and maintenance.
    • Safety oriented with excellent, best in class, Safety and Health knowledge including risk assessments gained within heavy industrial processing environment.
    • Minimum IOSHH Working Safely Certificate.
    • Proven leadership experience either gained in an operational/maintenance leadership or project engineering role.
    • Excellent persuasion and influencing skills, with the ability to challenge, question and collaboratively develop logical solutions.
    • Excellent, planning, scheduling, and project/programme/work stream management capabilities.
    • Experience of managing/liaising with contractors undertaking maintenance and other capital projects, ensuring compliance to health & safety and projects schedules.
    • Working towards or willing to attain chartered engineer status.
    • Solid technical knowledge of manufacturing systems, processes, operations and project management skills.
    • Proficient computer skills, specifically with applications such as SAP, AutoCAD and Microsoft Project.
    • An understanding of Statistical Process Control is highly advantageous.
