Our client is one of the world’s most successful third party logistics service providers with an impressive portfolio of blue chip multinational accounts across a range of industry sectors. 

This role is a high profile one, taking the lead in the further development and optimisation of multi –site logistics operations for one of Thailand’s largest grocery retailers.

As an experienced Grocery Logistics Distribution Centre Operations/General Manager, ideally with both 3PL and in-house experience, you will work closely with the client and will take the strategic and operational lead for multiple, automated and semi-automated DC’s in the Bangkok area. You will be responsible for strategic growth, operational development and performance covering both warehousing and transport logistics operations.   You will also to continue to engage and develop an excellent key account focused, client relationship at VP level.  The focus will be on the further development and growth of the business, against a stringent SLA and challenging KPI’s.  You will lead, coach and develop your team of DC General Managers to create a best in class and high performing country operation.

To succeed in this role, you will be university degree educated, and will perhaps have benefitted from an in-depth management development programme either with a large 3PL or a food/grocery retailer.  This will have encompassed a series of operational leadership roles covering both warehousing and transport (including acquisition of a CPC) interspersed with project work culminating in your current or most recent senior operational role, running either one or several large scale multi temperature FMCG retail NDCs or RDCs employing at least 900-1000 + staff, as a DC GM/Regional Manager or Director.  

Your 3PL experience will have included extensive contract account management and client stakeholder engagement.  Either in house or within a 3PL you will have built upon your project management and continuous improvement skills to reduce costs and increase efficiencies. You may already have been involved in new site openings, through to large scale physical and systems redesigns.  This will all have been achieved whilst ensuring that operations remain fully functional delivering high levels of accuracy and on time delivery within a retail DC.

You will be strategic and commercially minded, with experience of shaping strategic plans and implementing cost saving initiatives in complex, large retail FMCG operations. You will be experienced in coaching and leading teams through numerous periods of change and growth, producing high performing teams. You will be ambitious, with a track record of successful performance improvement and results delivery, as you build your expertise in this exciting role, to eventually take on a senior executive leadership role at VP level in a developing international market. 

The ideal applicant will be university degree educated perhaps in logistics or business or engineering. You will be a high energy, resilient person, with a warm personality and a real passion for developing people and driving a logistics business to succeed.  Your talent and development reviews to date will already have earmarked you as a high potential talent.   

From an operational perspective you must be adept at running a retail warehousing pick pack and despatch operation as well as a multi drop primary and secondary transport function.  In terms of budgetary responsibility my client’s business is big - in the range of £60 million plus revenue so your financial management and planning skills will be excellent. Your attention to detail, self-control and drive will be of the highest levels.  You will be comfortable persuading, influencing and presenting at both shop floor and director level internally and externally to the client.  

Previous experience of working abroad or extended periods of travel to the Far East or other developing markets will be highly advantageous, but not a prerequisite, however you will need to be able to quickly adapt to a different cultural style and your personal people management and leadership approach will be one that respects loyalty and engenders trust whilst remaining highly results driven and focused on success.  In return our client offers a competitive salary (low tax) and benefits such as car, bonus, pension, healthcare and fantastic career development.   Relocation assistance will be provided including short term rental support and school fees.

    About the Role

     

    Reporting to the recently appointed Managing Director, as the Business Development Manager, you will be pivotal in driving the business forward. You will be part of the Leadership Team as the business targets significant growth of the back of a firm financial and operational position. With a focus on new business development and account management, you will be responsible for expanding the customer base and maintaining strong relationships with existing clients. Using your expertise in sales and networking, you will engage in direct sales activities and generate leads in their current sectors and new markets. Our client is seeking an individual with both strong strategic capabilities, a tactical winning sales focus. A working knowledge of implementing successful marketing campaigns would be a big bonus. As part of the strategy for national salesm new business development and account management, you will act as "player coach", initially as an individual contributor who, as the business expands builds and manages a team of sales and business development executives as part of our client's ambitious growth plans.

    Key Responsibilities

     

    • Design and execute a strategic sales plan for specialised palletised freight and warehousing solutions to meet revenue goals.
    • Establish and maintain a strong relationship with the existing client base, focusing on expansion and customer retention.
    • Identify potential new clients and decision makers building working relationships to secure new business in line with the company strategic growth plan. Secure new business in line with the company growth plan.
    • Lead the development of new sales by identifying and targeting potential customers in existing and new sectors.
    • Engage in lead-generation and direct sales activities to generate leads and secure new business opportunities.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to develop and sell innovative solutions in storage and logistics.
    • Act as a brand ambassador, representing our client in a professional and knowledgeable manner.

     

     

    Requirements:

     

    • Proven sales and new business development experience in Logistics / Palletised Freight Sales, ideally Pallet Network.
    • Experience of selling warehousing, storage and value-added solutions is preferable.
    • Existing experience of operating as both an individual contributor and also player coaching building and leading a business development team.
    • Experience of selling "ugly freight" solutions is ideal but not essential (our client can teach you the complexity of ugly freight, they are the experts!)
    • Expertise in sourcing new and repeat business for the network including back hauling and full loads via freight exchange and pallet networks.
    • A track record of successfully achieving targets and driving business growth.
    • Strong networking and relationship-building skills
    • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
    • Self-motivated and driven to succeed.
    • Strong IT literacy skills including PowerPoint and Excel.
    • Willingness to travel nationally and work independently.

    As result of dynamic growth our client is seeking a very innovative, degree educated, Director of Solutions Design from the global 3PL/contract logistics sector. You will lead a solutions design team across transport, warehousing and value-added solutions working with clients across the Japanese cluster. Experience of robotic process automation warehousing solutions design would be advantageous.
    You will support the Country Leadership Team to develop and deploy commercial strategies. You lead, coach, and develop the Japanese solutions design team. You will also programme manage solutions design projects and resources.
    We are seeking individuals with experience of various types of transport, warehousing and storage including robotic process automation, automatic storage and retrieval systems.     The Role:
    * Managing a team of Warehousing/Transport & Valued Added Logistics Solutions Design Managers and Analysts, you will support the country Business Development and Implementation teams in developing innovative, cost effective and profitable warehousing and supply chain solutions for new and existing multinational and regional clients.

    * Through strategic consulting assignments, you will work at operational strategic and Board level to identify business issues focused on process improvement and cost effectiveness; propose value adding and innovative solutions and subsequently manage the delivery of projects.

    * This will entail analysis of existing inhouse and customer operations and the subsequent design of proposals, managing resource and cross functional teams during implementation, planning and solutions delivery. In addition, you will develop the supply chain solutions design strategy and manage the departmental budget.

    * As Director of Logistics Solutions Design your role will be broad - leading solutions design projects as a Subject Matter Expert across transport, robotic process automation specialist, material handling, automated warehousing design, supply chain and logistics systems, strategy, commercial, key account management, management accountant, facilitator, leader, mentor, coach and project manager.

    * You will possess extensive expertise in transport and warehousing solutions design, planning, projects, consultancy, value chain engineering and productivity improvement.     * Experience of transport and warehousing solutions design, supply chain optimisation, automated robotic process and warehouse design tools as well as formal project management capabilities will be a prerequisite. Experience of managing multi-disciplined teams is essential.

    * It is imperative that you will be possess a portfolio of successful projects completed across, for example, retail and FMCG, industrial, technology or pharmaceutical verticals.

    * Third Party Solutions design experience as a Senior Manager, General Manager, Head of, Senior Consultant/Partner or Project Director may have been supplemented with experience in one of the following environments: inhouse global multinational logistics fulfilment facilities design team; materials handling solutions design provider; or automation solutions/automated robotic process design consultancy.

    * Most importantly you will also have a demonstrable track record of success in coaching and developing a team of Solutions Design Analysts and Managers, ensuring a consistent, best in class approach.
