This is an excellent career development opportunity for an experienced Senior Buyer/ Category and Purchasing management professional with a track record of successful procurement project management and transformation gained within a blue-chip multinational environment.  You will be responsible for leading the further development and embedding of a Shared User/Shared Service Transactional and Tactical Procurement/Buying Desk function.  You will be equally comfortable and experienced undertaking tactical and transactional buying whilst also taking a longer-term strategic view supporting Category Managers.  You will be part of a pan European Procurement and Category Management team within our multinational client.

 

You will report to a Head of Purchasing Excellence.  Working alongside the UK central shared service procurement function, you and your team will focus on tactical, transactional and currently, non-compliant operational buying activity and spend up to £100 million, within our client’s national, divisional business units and multi-site manufacturing operations.  This will include direct sourcing, indirect sourcing and procurement delivery as part of the overall procurement strategy.   Your first 6-12 months will be spent embedding the Buying Desk function and developing your team.  Thereafter you will also be responsible for category strategy development, delivering projects to translate these strategies into validated cost savings.   You will also support the implementation of global corporate category management initiatives into the UK division.

 

The Role:

 

  • Lead Procurement Buying Desk tactical buying activities and undertake strategic category support spend of £100m per annum driving excellent % savings delivery.
  • Support of local category sourcing that continuously improves suppliers’ and contractors’ compliance with Safety, Health & Environment and Corporate & Social Responsibility standards
  • Work in cross functional teams including pan European Category Cluster teams to support delivery sourcing initiatives
  • Raise profile of procurement buying desk activity within the Group, delivering and showcasing exemplar activity and best practice
  • Ensure highest ethical principles and standards are implemented
  • Ensures products and services are purchased in the most cost- and time-efficient manner, delivering ‘agile’ solutions to implement and ensure purchasing best practices
  • Evaluates, re-tenders, renegotiates or extends supplier contracts in order to facilitate tactical and strategic sourcing with relevant stakeholders
  • Deliver additional value to operational buying needs – interpreting and meeting operational requirements/specifications, demand and delivery of solutions
  • Quotation analysis and recommendations, consideration suitability/reliability of suppliers to meet operational requirements
  • Own the supplier accreditation process – manage and challenge non-compliant buying activities
  • Engagement with operational teams to review pipeline and track regional
  • and national opportunities
  • Produce management information and monitor performance and operational usage of the buying desk (including Excom reporting)

 

The Ideal Candidate:

 

You will be an excellent relationship builder, with a strong capability in terms of stakeholder engagement within operational teams advising, managing and delivering on best value spend options for a range of indirect and direct spend areas within a certain critical spend level.

A strong and confident personality you will be familiar with presenting at senior executive level and also to operational and functional heads based within manufacturing and processing facilities.

  • Graduate calibre. Part or Fully Qualified CIPS or willing to study.
  • Career track record gained within large multinational procurement environment.
  • At least five to eight years’ experience as a Tactical/Transactional Buyer or Purchasing or Category Specialist.
  • Experience of operational, transactional and tactical buying and procurement will be a prerequisite.
  • Track record of procurement project management, ideally as a delivery lead within a multinational matrix environment.
  • Experience of SAP or similar ERP systems for procurement.
  • Numerate and analytical with excellent attention to detail, able to work well as part of a team and autonomously.
  • Enthusiastic and “can do” personality.
  • Ambitious and driven to succeed and progress career within blue chip multinational procurement environment.
  • Confident and excellent relationship builder with a track record of stakeholder engagement.
  • Very good persuasion, influencing and negotiating skills.
