As a result of continued unprecedented growth our client is now seeking a university degree educated EMEIA Logistics Distribution Centre Support Manager to join its global logistics distribution centre operations team.

The key purpose of the role is to ensure that our client’s Logistics Service Partner’s (LSP) operational performance, cost and quality standards and efficiency meet and exceed business targets and expectations. Understanding cost drivers to achieve cost optimisation in areas of direct and indirect spend is also a key aspect of this exciting position. This is a fast moving, dynamic environment where flexibility and adaptability are key attributes needed for success.

If you’re a self-starter, motivated by working in Logistics Operations, (preferably Distribution Centre Operations Management) and have strong Business and Project Management skills, then we’d love to hear from you. Ideally, you’ll need to be an excellent communicator, able to work on your own initiative and have deep experience of working within an outsourced environment.

This is an area where an opportunity exists for the successful individual to put their own style and degree of ownership in areas such as process efficiency measurement at a supplier and process level, to develop and enhance standardisation of processes to achieve best-in-class outcomes for quality and cost.

The Role:

This role reports to a Global DC Operations Manager/Distribution Centre Controller. The principal focus of the role is the support of DC Operations across our client’s multiple Distribution Centres in EMEIA. The EMEIA Distribution Centre Support Manager, you will take responsibility for key Distribution Centre initiatives and activities that span multiple DCs, operational processes and procedures:

  • You will be accountable for setting operational objectives for the DCs in accordance with business plan and targets.
  • You will drive standardised processes across the DC’s.
  • You will also ensure operational improvement plan are in place focused on service level agreements and operational objectives.
  • You will ensure that Logistics Partners’ processes are robust, documented and reviewed regularly, and that training matrices and SOP’s reflect current process.
  • You will demonstrate a strong effective understanding of compliance with health and safety regulations and environmental and quality standards.
  • You will ennsure best practice methodologies are clearly defined and delivered to all EMEIA Logistics operations
  • Actively engage with Logistics Partners Security teams to remove any and all security risk exposure to our client and its customers’ products.
  • At an operational level you will ensure that the DC partners have a robust process and reporting for Workflow management and monitoring.
  • Lead the rollup of DC Daily/Weekly/Monthly performance management and follow up and ownership of any provider issues.
  • Provide DC management reporting as required.
  • Maintain and monitor critical metrics ensuring our operation is executing to agreed service levels.
  • Develop effective and significant metrics to support business objectives. Review root cause analysis and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented as issues occur with the providers.
  • Monitor performance through operational reviews and audit
  • Analysis of third party invoices and costs to insure value for money is being achieved

Planning & Resource Management:

  • Responsible to ensure that the DC partner has robust processes for capacity and resource management in place and that this process is utilized as a standard business and operations planning tool.
  • Develop and implement a process for the measurement and reporting of productivity and efficiency across key DC activities.
  • Ensure that Logistics Partners’ resource plans and skills levels are consistent with our client’s forecast plans and needs.
  • Engage with the Supply and Demand Management team to understand product forecasts and represents the DC capability in this process.

The Ideal Applicant:

  • Educated to degree level with at least seven years distribution centre management experience gained within a blue-chip multinational environment either in house or within a global third party logistics provider.
  • Industry qualifications such as a MSc In Logistics and Supply Chain or Procurement.
  • You will have a minimum of seven years industry experience, across a range of disciplines such as FMCG, bulk, single item pick, parcel within a fast moving multiple or very large distribution centre operations environment.
  • Understanding of transport operations preferred.
  • Experience of supplier/LSP management preferred.
  • Ability to create and validate cost models for existing and new processes.
  • You’ll need to bring strong project management skills, and be able to demonstrate experience, knowledge and understanding of structured methodologies. In this role, you will find opportunities, secure consensus and successfully execute the initiative.

  • Highly adept at working well with a remote team and understands the associated team dynamics.
  • Flexibility – you are able to work as required to fulfill business needs, and extensive travel will be a pre-requisite, up to 30%.
